Dragon Hatchling No-Sew Crochet Pattern
What’s smaller than the baby dragon? A dragon hatchling! This is a no-sew and smaller version of my baby dragon pattern! All the pieces are crocheted directly onto the piece!

Here’s the written pattern for the dragon hatchling:
Skills and Abbreviations (In U.S. terms)
MR = Magic Ring (Magic Circle)
SC = Single Crochet
SL ST = Slip Stitch
DcBo = Double Crochet Bobble (this is also often just called a “Bobble”). This pattern uses two types of bobbles: one made out of 5 partial double crochets and one made out of 6 partial double crochets.
CH = Chain
INC = Increase
DEC = Decrease
FLO = Front Loop Only
FO = Fasten Off
Change Color
Slip Knot
Turn
Recommended Materials:
(Based on what I used to make the dragon in the sample photos)
#6 Super Bulky Blanket Yarn in Pink, White, and two shades of Green
#4 Worsted Weight Yarn in Black for the nostrils (can be substituted with #6 super bulky blanket yarn instead)
Two 18 mm Safety Eyes (WARNING: Safety eyes can be choking hazards and are not recommended for crochet plushies made for infants/young children, pets etc. )
6.5 mm Crochet Hook
Stuffing
Scissors
Yarn Needle (for detailing and weaving in ends)
Pins & Stitch Markers (Optional)
“Where can I get the materials?”
You can find most of these items in a craft store, sometimes in places like Walmart, or on my Amazon Storefront. “Can I use a different yarn or hook size?”
Yes! The above yarn sizes and hook size are recommendations based on what I used to make the dragon in the sample photo. Feel free to switch up the yarn or hook size based on what you have available or your preference.
If you are using a different yarn or hook size, don’t forget to make sure that the yarn and hook size work well together. For amigurumi, it is often recommended to use a hook size that is 1-2mm smaller than the recommended hook size on the yarn label for tighter stitches and less holes in your project. However, different crocheters have their own preferences on hook size and you are welcome to follow your own preference.
Please note that the plushie may vary a little bit in size with different yarn and hook sizes.
“Can I replace the safety eyes with something else?”
Yes! Just like the yarn and hook size, the safety eyes listed are just what I used to make the plushie in the sample photo. Feel free to use a similar eye size or switch it up with felt, buttons, or even just embroider it with yarn. If you do change the eyes, you may want to adjust the eye placement based on how different in size the eyes are.
The snout, body, tail, horns, and legs are all made as one continuous piece, forming the base.

Attach the eyes between rounds 6 and 7. They should be around 9 stitches apart. The inner edges of the eyes should be roughly aligned with the outer corner of the horns (the white bobbles).
Begin stuffing and continue stuffing as you finish the last few rounds.

Use the yarn tail to sew the plushie closed.
Spikes:
Using a second shade of Green

The spikes are crocheted directly onto the base of the dragon.
Optional: Use pins to mark where you’d like to place the spikes to guide your stitches.
Start with a slip knot and insert the hook underneath the stitch on the center topside of the tail.
Make a SL ST, CH 2
Then make a DC in the next stitch on the next round, moving up the dragon’s base.
Repeat until you reach R6 OR as far as you’d like the spikes to extend. End with a SL ST.
Weave in the yarn tails.
Wings (Make 2):
Using White
The wings are also crocheted directly onto the base of the dragon.

Make a slip knot and insert the hook 3 stitches away from each side of the spikes and 2 rounds behind the horns
R1: Make 2 SC going down the side of the dragon.
R2: CH 1 and Turn, 2 INC (4)
R3: CH 1 and Turn, 4 SC (4)
R4: CH1 and Turn, 4 SC (4)
R5: CH 3 and Turn,
Skip the chains and first stitch to SL ST into the second stitch,
2 SL ST
FO and weave in the yarn tails. Repeat on the other side to make the second wing.
Blush:
Using Pink
Embroider on the blush starting from 1 stitch below the outer corner of each eye and spanning 1 round wide.
Nostrils:
Using Black
Embroider 2 nostrils onto round 2 of the snout.
Congratulations! You finished your dragon!
