Christmas Beaver Crochet Pattern
“A cute little log accessory would be adorable!” was a suggestion that I got when I first showed my progress of the beaver on Patreon. But in the spirit of Christmas, I thought it could be a “Christmas tree!” It’s as if the beaver had just chopped down its own tree to bring home!
The tree is tied onto the beaver’s back like how Christmas trees are strapped onto the top of cars. As a final touch, I also gave the beaver a Santa hat!
So here’s how to make this Christmas beaver! While this pattern is designed as three parts to make a Christmas beaver, you can also use this pattern to make a stand alone Christmas Tree or mini Santa hat as well! Of course, you can also make the beaver as a stand alone plushie as well with the beaver pattern.
The following pattern covers how to make a Christmas tree and Santa hat to add to your beaver. You can find the free beaver pattern here. Or you can find a PDF version of both the beaver with the Christmas accessories on my Patreon. I wrote this pattern for after you’ve already made the beaver, but you can also make the Christmas tree and Santa hat first if you’d like to.
Here’s the written pattern:

“What’s the invisible fasten off?”
The invisible fasten off is an alternative to the regular “fasten off.” It’s optional, but can create a nicer finish to the piece. Here’s a guide on how to do that.
Recommended Materials:
(Based on what I used in the sample photos)
Super Bulky Weight Yarn (#6) in White, Green, Red, and Yellow
6 mm Crochet Hook (or a similar hook size)
Two 14 mm Safety Eyes
Stuffing
Yarn Needle
Scissors
3 to 4 Stitch Markers (Optional: They are mostly used to make it easier to identify the stitches and rounds, but if you’re comfortable with identifying them by eye, then they are not necessary.)
Pins (Optional)
“Where can I get the materials?”
You can find most of these items in a craft store, sometimes in places like Walmart, or on my Amazon Storefront. My Amazon Storefront contains my own personal favorites to use! It’s an affiliate link, which means I will earn a small commission at no extra cost to you if you use it to make a purchase. This is an additional way that helps support me and lets me continue to make free content for you.
The dark brown yarn is linked on my amazon storefront. But I do also get a lot of my yarn from Joann! The colors that I used from Joann are green, sand, white, and buttercup (these are also affiliate links that help support me as well!) I bought the red that I used from Yarnspirations: Bernat Blanket Race Car Red.
“Can I use a different yarn or hook size?”
Yes! The above yarn sizes and hook size are recommendations based on what I used to make the plushie in the sample photo. Feel free to switch up the yarn or hook size based on what you have available or your preference. However, you should be using the same hook and yarn size to make all the pieces: the beaver, Santa hat, and Christmas tree.
If you are using a different yarn or hook size, don’t forget to make sure that the yarn and hook size work well together. For amigurumi, it’s often recommended to use a hook size that is 1-2mm smaller than the recommended hook size on the yarn label for tighter stitches and less holes in your project. However, different crocheters have their own preferences on hook size and you are welcome to follow your own preference.
Please note that the plushie may vary in size with different yarn and hook sizes.
“Can I replace the safety eyes with something else?”
Yes! Just like the yarn and hook size, the safety eyes listed are just what I used to make the plushie in the sample photo. Feel free to use a similar eye size or switch it up with felt, buttons, or even just embroider it with yarn.
Please note that safety eyes can be choking hazards and are not recommended for plushies made for young children or pets.
“Can I sell the plushies that I make with this pattern?”
Yes! Absolutely! What you do with the plushies you make is completely up to you! You may gift, donate, or sell any plushies that you make with any of my patterns. I would greatly appreciate if you could give "The Mary Jay" pattern credit and link back to this pattern when possible.
However, please do not sell, copy, or duplicate (to distribute) the crochet pattern itself in any form without permission.

Use the yarn tail to sew the plushie closed.
Ruffles (of the tree):
The ruffles are made in the front loops of R4, R6, and R8 (that we marked with the stitch markers) of the Christmas tree.
Using Green, make a slip knot and insert your hook into the first front loop of R4 (where we placed the first stitch marker).
In FLO of R4, [SL ST, DC, Dc Inc, DC] x 4 (20)
Invisible fasten off or SL ST into the first stitch and FO.
Using Green, make a slip knot and insert your hook into the first front loop of R6 (where we placed the second stitch marker)
In FLO of R6, [SL ST, DC, Dc Inc, DC] x 6 (30)
Invisible fasten off or SL ST into the first stitch and FO.
Using Green, make a slip knot and insert your hook into the first front loop of R8 (where we placed the third stitch marker)
In FLO of R8, [SL ST, DC, Dc Inc, DC] x 8 (40)
Invisible fasten off or SL ST into the first stitch and FO.
Weave in the yarn tails.
Cut a strand of Yellow yarn (at least 2 feet long, although I suggest adding a little more length for some leeway).
Use it to tie the tree onto the back of the beaver. If you haven’t made the beaver yet, you can find the free pattern here.
Santa Hat:
Using White
R1 6 SC in a MR
Change color to Red
R2 [DEC] x 3 (3)
R3 [INC] x 3 (6)
R4 [SC, INC] x 3 (9)
R5 9 SC (9)
Change color to White
R6 In FLO, 9 SC (9)
Invisible FO or SL ST into the first stitch and FO leaving a long tail for sewing.
Fold R6 slightly so that this round flares out and sits flat on the beaver’s head.
Optional: If you’d like the hat to have a slight floppy appearance, bend the hat between R2 and 3 and sew the top down with a new strand of yarn.
Sew the hat onto the top of the head using the yarn that we leftover for sewing when we fastened off. If you still haven’t made the beaver, here’s where you can find the free pattern.
